In reply to Andrew Mumford. The key with the Turkish coffee maker is the grind, even more so than the coffee. This year I'm using the MHW-3Bomber F74 Navigator grinder which can do a proper "coarse" turkish grind (finer than any other electric grinder I'm currently testing); in years past, I've been using manual grinders for the task, most notably the 1Zpresso X-Ultra. For the coffee, I use Social Coffee's Pleasant Uprising blend which is a medium roast and works well in the turkish method.

I love this list and have passed it onto my partner who always struggles in what to get his nerdy coffee loving partner for Christmas. He gets the results of my obsession, when I make his coffee each AM, so he feeds it by finding cool and different coffee things I can use.

Thank you for this and your other first look reviews, including your review for the Ninja Cafe Luxe Pro. One question: can you confirm that this machine does not
Brew larger cups of coffee like the Ninja Cafe Luxe Pro. I don’t see a machine outside the Ninja that can do this.

I really do appreciate the work and effort you put into these sales articles, but I’m also struggling to not pull the trigger on any of them because we’re currently boycotting Amazon for various reasons. With that said, do you have any recommendations on where to get the Barista Express for a similar price while avoiding giving Jeff Bezos my money?

Interesting dive into this machine. I tracked comments on reddit and home barista, saw that many people were trashing this product without seeing one in person. I can appreciate you giving it a fair shake, but also coming up with similar conclusions to what the speculation is. I love the look of the Mina. I wish it was executed better. I wonder how many Olympia will sell.

Hi Tim – my source is Breville themselves on this, and changes they made to both the Express and the Infuser a few years ago. TBH, I haven’t actually “tested” it on the Infuser, but have done so with the Express, on an old 2014 era one vs a 2023 model and a hacked portafilter device i made with a pressure gauge and thermocouple. But you can test it by just putting a blind filter into the PF, and check the gauge.
