  1. That’s looking real tempting. I’ve been using a Cuisinart flat burr grinder for a long time, and it owes me nothing, and it still seems to do OK for me, but it’s a noisy git.

It will also be useful for camping where I don’t necessarily have the luxury of electricity.

  2. I’d be interested in comparisons with, and your thoughts about, the Pietro flat burr handgrinder for espresso.

  3. I’ve been a long time Porlex user for travel and camping and it works, sort of. It doesn’t play well with my home espresso machine. I get a good shot here and there but I deserve better. 😉

    I just purchased through Amazon.

Awesome review. Thorough as usual. I like coffee toys, but love simple valuable design considerations. The pyramid of dots is very clever. The burrs look voracious. I’ve never had a grinder that could create powder for Turkish coffee. That could be my next coffee adventure. Thanks!

  4. Update. My J-Ultra arrived. It’s impressive. Downloaded the instructions, and did a first trial with a moka pot, (my espresso machine is down) and first results with the grinder at 100 were okay. I upped my dosage from 14 to 15 grams and tightened the grind by four clicks. Fantastic results, for a moka pot. I’m using more beans than I was grinding in my Macap M4, and to touch, and I’m sure a little finer grind. The result was great.
I’ve had a Presso manual espresso set up that I’ll try next. That and the J-Ultra will be travel buds. I’ll tighten the grind a bit, maybe up to 106 and see what I get.
Having had a Porlex for several years, the J-Ultra is less Fisher-Price and more like a piece of equipment. I like the heft of it. The little details make it a joy to use. The longer handle makes grinding less of a chore. I switched hands and it was still great. lol

  5. Do you have an OE Lido E to compare it with? That has been my day hike grinder so far.

  6. As you also reviewed the superkop, did you try them together? If so, which setting would you recommend? Thanks
